Read time: approx 20-25mins Every now and then, a Pakistani drama shows up that makes you sit up and go, “Wait… why does this actually feel real?” Parwarish is one of those. It’s not full of evil in-laws, love triangles, or long courtroom monologues. Instead, it quietly zooms in on something way more complicated — parenting, growing up, mental health, and what it actually feels like to be a teenager (or a confused parent) in today’s world. No screaming matches, no dramatic thunder sound effects — just honest, messy, relatable moments that hit way closer to home than we expected. And with that, let’s break down why Parwarish might just be one of the most refreshingly real shows we’ve had in a while... Pace Every episode feels like a full, healthy eating plate — you get sweetness, bitterness, and something nourishing. Whether it’s the slow-burn friendship of Wali (Samar Jafri) and Amal (Reham Rafiq) , the comforting wisdom in grandad’s scenes, or the small family dinners ...
Bilal Abbas is potentially the most loved actor in recent times as he continuously smashes his own previous performance records. I think Bilal Abbas has proven to show his range in his work through a multitude of different projects all within the first 8 years of his career. I think he was very lucky to have been given lead roles very early on in his career. He is a fine example and role model to youngsters looking towards joining the showbiz industry and working from rock bottom to fame (without nepotism) through his finely-picked project choices that really add to his portfolio of versatility. Let's walk through some of his different projects and performances and really look at how he's reached the level he has today.
Okay, so my first Bilal Abbas drama was Cheekh back in 2019. Here we see him opposite a very high-calibre cast which includes Saba Qamar, Emmad Irfani and Aijaz Aslam. However, I definitely think he was able to make space and draw attention to his performance as a cold-blooded murderer. I think the attention here was in his dialogue delivery and expressions that brought the character of Wajih to life. I also do think his portrayal as an antagonist was quite different and perhaps a more subtle but still qaatilana villain. In future, if Bilal Abbas were to play a negative role I'd like to see his character bigger and bolder!
Abdullahpur ka Devdas(2024) was a short and underrated web series where he played a very poetic and almost dreamy straight-out-of-a-novel character. He was definitely more than a heartbroken nakam aashiq mourning over a girl (which honestly irritates me). I truly think his performance was beautiful and I still actually miss watching his performance. His acting here was definitely all in the eyes😍
Mann Jogi(2024) was an impressive and impactful performance from start to finish. The very first scene where he was giving the Athaan but he was trembling in his voice was such a gripping opening scene. Throughout the drama, the attention to detail in his body language was particularly eye-catching; it was the slouched shoulders, fidgeting out of fear, lack of eye contact with others and nervousness were all portrayed flawlessly by Bilal Abbas. I do think his body language and attention to detail in bringing characters to life often go underappreciated.
Other notable projects that gained him recognition include O Rangreza (2017), Pyar ke Sadqey (2020), Kuch Ankahi (2023) and Ishq Murshid (2024). I've watched O Rangreza and Pyar ke Sadqey and found the characters to have slight overlaps but I definitely enjoyed his character of Abdullah as the dumb mathematics genius opposite Yumna Zaidi! I found his character in Kuch Ankahi slightly grey although it was a good project to be part of. I didn't watch Ishq Murshid but I know his characters gained a lot of popularity as he played a double role which props to him!
Bilal Abbas is able to create impactful and memorable performances through his craft and this is showcased in his calibre of acting. He has a steady graph ahead of him with back-to-back different projects all of which have been highly praised. I think I've rarely ever seen or heard any negative comments about him and he does get praise from his seniors like Saba Qamar. I also think he should've been given some sort of award for young talent/rising star as he's done enough variety of projects and worked with many other big names. I think another point to be noted is how he's never done a GEOTV project which goes to show how selective he is about the scripts he is offered and would prefer to be part of something more meaningful with a story rather than something overdramatised and stereotypical.
