Mrs & Mr Shameem: Redefining masculinity

approx read time: 10-15mins Mrs & Mr Shameem... a drama I literally have no words for! The drama brings together the powerhouse performances of Nauman Ijaz and Saba Qamar through an unconventional and gripping storyline. The couple face quite literally every problem on the cards together but come out stronger in the end...Let us explore the performances and taboo themes intertwined that stem from true masculinity, opposing common stereotypes... Poster Title I'd like to actually put some emphasis on the drama poster title. What does it really suggest to an audience? Did you notice that typically we say Mr & Mrs but the drama is actually Mrs & Mr? Was this intentional? The "Mr Shameem" is written in italics which to me seems really feminine. The "Mrs Shameem" is written in capital which I think suggests bold dominance. Now, if we were to match these up to the characters of Umi and Shammo, who would you say represents which title? Casting Okay so what i

Why Abdullah Kadwani & Asad Qureshi's new telefilm Ruposh is trending right now

Read time: under 5 mins

Ruposh is the first-ever telefilm to reach 35 million views in 10 days! Here's why we say it's rightfully doing so well...

During the lead-up to the release, Ruposh had already created itself a social media presence and there was a 'buzz' in the air after the first promo was uploaded. Within the first look, it was clear that the production quality and visual aesthetics for a typical Pakistani telefilm were taken up a notch in the making of Ruposh. The motion posters used on Instagram showcased the moods of the characters- Haroon's central pose reflected the intensity and emotions his character will experience whilst Kinza's eyes show innocence and fear.

Music

The OST is sung by Wajhi Farooki and has hit a ground-breaking 11 million views. The OST for any drama or telefilm always acts as a first impression to worldwide potential viewers. The Ruposh OST lyrics have been loved by fans and has been trending on TikTok with 100 million views. We also loved how well Haroon Kadwani was lip-syncing whilst standing with Wajhi Farooki who was also featured in the video.
Ruposh is a story of love and betrayal which is beautifully signified in the contrast of both songs- the OST and Humraazi. The OST lyrics symbolize betrayal whilst Humraazi (which is sung by the same singer) is a playful romantic song giving the audience a breath of fresh air. Both songs signify the contrasting themes the telefilm is set to show- 'love is in the air' and then the pain that comes with love...

Cast

Ruposh stars Haroon Kadwani and Kinza Hashmi in lead roles. Haroon Kadwani is the son of well-known producer Abdullah Kadwani- does this make Haroon Kadwani a production of nepotism?👀 Haroon was last seen in the telefilm Teri Meri Kahani (2021). Whilst Haroon Kadwani has newly stepped into the industry after completing acting and theatre courses in both London and Canada; the audience (including myself) automatically have high expectations from him being the son of such a renowned actor and producer. Haroon has critically received mixed responses from viewers for his acting in Ruposh. Haroon is just 22 years old and has done 2 dramas and now 2 telefilms-is it fair to criticize him for nepotism? In the showbiz industry, it is very important to see the growth of actors over time as they play different roles to showcase their versatility. Personally, I feel Haroon Kadwani has the potential to excel in the industry and would like to see him in more drama serials henceforth.
Kinza Hashmi who is now an actress we see regularly in Pakistani dramas made her debut in the industry when she was only 16 years old. Since then, she has created her own name and fame from the strong roles she has played and quickly risen to stardom. The chemistry of the young actors has been much liked by fans as we are introduced to the confident and rebellious Salaar Shah with the innocent and fun-loving Zunaira in a college setting.

Plot

The main storyline follows the pain that comes with love and betrayal-many viewers liked the plot twist that came with this. This telefilm to some extent may be relatable with viewers; the consequences of true love usually come with emotional destruction. The intensity of emotions and thrill showcased in Ruposh makes the telefilm a fitting story for a Pakistani audience.
Ruposh has been loved by many fans whilst the uproar has made many think that the telefilm was overhyped. Was this uproar critically right for such a telefilm?
